I respectfully disagree, Shannon. Attitudes take a long time to change. Every time sexist or racist behaviour is called out, especially if it is done in a way that does not cause a defensive reaction, culture is nudged a little bit. By a coworker simply saying, “I found that comment pretty racist and I was offended by it” can bring about subtle change. By not saying anything, however, the attitude has more chance of remaining entrenched.
